The boat, Becky & Peter

Rents in San Francisco are ridiculous. I don’t have to tell you that.  This article could do that.

“San Francisco has the highest rents of any large city in the U.S”

We were paying 1500$/m for a single room. Not a house, not an apartment, a room. It was stupid, we’d have nothing to show for it after, so we decided to live at sea after a friend over in Japan sent us an article that didn’t make you feel guilty about doing something alternative.

This blog is about finding a boat, fixing it up, and us turning it into a smart home.
It’s San Francisco after all, “smarts” (meh) things and startups are everywhere. But smart boats? On a budget? Not so common. So it’s a mission.

We are pair of regular people with no particular background in construction or restoration. Peter, though, grew up with Macgyver and believe he can fix it all with some duct tape and rubber bands. And so it went.

The boat is a Sea Ray Sundancer. 31 feet plus the swim pad. It’s old, almost 20 years but with a little love we’re making it look a mere 10 years old with some smarts.

Longterm we might switch it up to a sailing boat and go around the world. Seems like a fun thing to do. For now though, we’re learning the ropes and having fun being on the sea.
